We operate with a level of rigor and compliance that exceeds industry standards in Indonesia. Our operations are fully transparent, properly licensed, and adhere to both Indonesian law and international maritime best practices. This commitment is the foundation upon which every transformative journey is built.

Corporate & Legal Compliance

We believe in responsible and transparent business practices. Phinisi Wellness is a legally registered and fully compliant entity within the Republic of Indonesia.

  • Legal Entity: We operate as a registered Indonesian Perseroan Terbatas (PT), a limited liability company under the oversight of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
  • Tourism License: We hold a valid and current Surat Izin Usaha Pariwisata (SIUP) issued by the Kementerian Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif (Kemenparekraf), authorizing us to conduct luxury tour operations.

Maritime Safety & Vessel Standards

Our fleet is maintained and operated to a standard that prioritizes safety above all else.

  • Vessel Registration & Certification: Every phinisi in our curated collection is properly registered with the Directorate General of Sea Transportation (HUBla) and has undergone rigorous seaworthiness inspections by the Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI), the official Indonesian classification society.
  • SOLAS Compliance: Our vessels are equipped with safety equipment that meets or exceeds the international Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention, including SOLAS-grade life rafts, Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), radar, GPS, satellite phones, and comprehensive medical kits.
  • Crew Certification & Training: Our captains hold the highest level of Indonesian maritime certification (ANT I or ANT II). All crew members, from engineers to deckhands, hold valid STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) certificates. Regular onboard safety drills, including man-overboard and fire-fighting procedures, are mandatory.

Guest Safety & Emergency Protocols

We have comprehensive plans in place for any contingency, ensuring our guests are safe in even the most remote locations.

  • Dive Safety: As a PADI-affiliated operator, we adhere to the strictest dive safety protocols. All dives are led by certified PADI Divemasters or Instructors. Our vessels are equipped with emergency oxygen, and our dive guides are trained Emergency First Response (EFR) providers.
  • Medical Preparedness: In addition to comprehensive first-aid kits, our vessels carry Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). We have established emergency action plans and direct communication lines with medical evacuation services and top-tier hospitals in key locations, such as Siloam Hospitals in Labuan Bajo and BIMC in Bali.
  • Ground & Air Coordination: All ground transportation is provided by vetted partners using GPS-tracked vehicles and professional drivers. We coordinate closely with airport authorities and AirNav Indonesia to monitor flight schedules for seamless and safe transfers.

Upholding maritime excellence: Navigational and vessel integrity

Imagine the gentle sway of a meticulously crafted phinisi, gliding through the azure waters of Raja Ampat, every timber and sail speaking of heritage and precision. This serene experience is underpinned by an unwavering commitment to maritime safety and operational excellence. At Phinisi Wellness, our luxury fleet adheres to the most stringent Indonesian and international maritime standards, ensuring not just compliance, but superior performance and guest security. Each of our traditional yet technologically advanced phinisi vessels undergoes rigorous annual dry-dock inspections by accredited classification bodies, such as Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI), to certify hull integrity, machinery performance, and safety equipment functionality. Beyond these mandated checks, our dedicated technical teams conduct over 50 points of preventative maintenance checks every single month, addressing everything from engine diagnostics to sail rigging, ensuring peak operational condition for every voyage.

The human element is equally paramount to our maritime safety profile. Our captains and crew are not merely skilled mariners; they are seasoned professionals with deep expertise in navigating the unique and diverse archipelagic waters of Indonesia. Every captain holds a Class I or Class II Indonesian Master Mariner certificate, backed by an average of 15 years navigating these specific routes, from the Komodo National Park to the remote Spice Islands. Our deck and engine room crew are certified in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), ensuring they possess the comprehensive skills for navigation, engineering, and emergency response. Beyond formal qualifications, continuous in-house training programs cover advanced navigation techniques, satellite communication protocols, and the deployment of our state-of-the-art safety equipment, including multiple life rafts, emergency beacons, and sophisticated fire suppression systems. This blend of heritage craftsmanship, modern technology, and unparalleled human expertise creates a sanctuary of safety on the open sea.

Safeguarding your well-being: Health, hygiene, and emergency preparedness

The pursuit of wellness aboard a Phinisi Wellness journey extends far beyond transformative experiences; it encompasses a profound dedication to your physical health and peace of mind. Our onboard health and hygiene protocols are designed to exceed the expectations of luxury travelers, drawing on best practices from leading hospitality and medical guidelines. From the moment you step aboard, you’ll notice an immaculate environment: cabins are meticulously cleaned and sanitized daily, linens are refreshed with hypoallergenic products, and communal areas are maintained to the highest standards. Our culinary team operates under strict HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) principles, ensuring that all ingredients, many sourced fresh from local markets, are handled, prepared, and served with the utmost care to prevent cross-contamination and ensure food safety. Our potable water systems utilize advanced filtration and purification technologies, providing safe drinking water throughout your journey.

Emergency preparedness is a cornerstone of our operational philosophy. While every Phinisi Wellness voyage is designed for serene exploration, we are fully equipped and trained for any unforeseen circumstance. Each vessel carries comprehensive medical kits, exceeding standard requirements, and at least two crew members are certified in advanced first aid and CPR, undergoing refresher courses every 18 months. Our emergency response plans are robust, encompassing clear protocols for medical emergencies, fire, or evacuation, and are regularly drilled with the entire crew. We maintain redundant communication systems, including satellite phones and VHF radios, ensuring constant contact with shore support and emergency services, even in the most remote locations. In the rare event of a medical evacuation, we have established rapid response partnerships with reputable medical facilities and air ambulance services, guaranteeing swift and efficient care, anywhere within our operational zones. Your health and safety are not just priorities; they are integral to the very fabric of the Phinisi Wellness experience.

Environmental stewardship: Navigating sustainably with phinisi wellness

The pristine beauty of Indonesia’s marine ecosystems is the very canvas upon which Phinisi Wellness crafts its extraordinary journeys. Our reverence for these natural wonders extends beyond appreciation; it drives a proactive and deep-seated commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable tourism practices. We understand that true luxury travel in these delicate environments carries a profound responsibility. Our waste management systems are designed to minimize our ecological footprint: all waste is meticulously segregated onboard, with non-biodegradable materials compacted and stored for proper disposal onshore at certified facilities, ensuring absolutely no discharge into the sea. We have invested in advanced onboard waste management solutions, allowing us to reduce non-biodegradable waste by 85% compared to conventional operations, aligning with our ‘leave no trace’ philosophy.

Beyond waste management, our operational policies are steeped in conservation ethics. Our captains are trained in responsible anchoring practices, utilizing designated mooring buoys whenever available to protect fragile coral reefs and seagrass beds. When anchoring is necessary, precise techniques are employed to minimize seabed disturbance. Phinisi Wellness actively supports local marine conservation initiatives, understanding that the health of these ecosystems is intrinsically linked to the well-being of local communities. Since 2020, we have contributed over $20,000 annually to coral reef restoration projects in regions like Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, working alongside local NGOs to preserve these vital underwater gardens. We also engage our guests in educational programs, encouraging responsible interaction with marine life and fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of conservation, ensuring that every phinisi wellness journey is not just an escape, but an act of conscious travel.
